Blog update on the trip
Day 1 We drove to our hunt camp that day because we started off pretty late. When we started driving, that's when we learned that you have to really fasten down things when you drive. So many things flow everywhere. Both of the shelves that we have drawers in opened but nothing fell out, we put our hand washing machine in front of that one so that it wouldn’t open and a bucket in front of the other. When we got to Parry Sound we went to Canadian Tire to get something to hold the shelves. We tried to find RV clips but we couldn’t so we got these L brackets and screwed them into the wood on the side, these seem to hold pretty well. But it is annoying to unscrew them every time we want to open the cupboards. When we got to the hunt camp we figured out that the pump we had didn’t have a hose attachment. We thought that it might have been missing a piece but later when we wore in Sault Sainte Marie we figured out that it just didn’t come with it. The one my dad got was meant for a basement so I just bought the attachment. Back to what we did well the pump was supposed to fill the big water tank that is on the back of the bus, but we couldn’t so we filled up a small portable tank by submerging it in the lake. We then turned on the generator for the first time, it was very easy to use. My mom made dinner well we just chilled outside. We tried to saw through a lock that I broke a key in that was to our shed, but I soon realized that it was stainless steel so that was not going to work. Dinner was soon ready by the time we ate and cleaned up, it was like 10:30. We then watched Moana and went to bed.
Day 2 When we were getting ready to leave we put the cat on a leash and she slipped out of her harness. We found her under the camp sleeping, we tried to call her out but she didn’t want to come out so we had to get a long stick to pick her out. That took us like half an hour. We had a long day of driving ahead of us, we were going to Sault Sainte Marie and we had to get there before 9:30. We got dinner in Sudbury, we got Thai food. We stopped on a side road to beat and let the animals out. There was a big scary cloud coming our way but we luckily got just the tail end of it. When we got into Sault Sainte Marie we stopped at Walmart for some groceries. We made it to Glenview cottages right at 9:30 which is where we were staying. My mom had that last weekend of her Yin yoga class so we wore staying here over the weekend.
Day 3 I awoke when my mom had to start her class so I took the cat and dog for a walk later when my mom was done with her class at 4:00 we went for a short walk. The trails behind cottages were really nice. The Vaugeur trail went through right where we were staying. I thought that was pretty cool.
Day 4 Was about the same as the day before I made a lot of baked treats because why not. Mom finished at 3 so we got to go for a bit longer of a walk so we decided to walk on the Vaugeur trail I found that it was very well marked even though the markers wore white and the ground was covered in a layer of snow. My mom wrote this short paragraphed that she would like to share about the Vaugeur trail.
Voyageur Trail
We were introduced to this beautiful trail when we stayed outside of Sault Sainted Marie. Here it follows an Old Growth mixed forest. There is moss all over the forest floor and rocks. There were lichens hanging from the trees. I saw so many fairy houses in tree cavities. The terrain was moderate to steep at times. I guess this trial has sections all over Northern Ontario. We ran into it again near Wawa. It was just as beautiful following a large cascading creek with old-growth cedars which have enchanting red roots. The trails also went out to a long beautiful beach on Lake Superior.
Day 5 We first went back into Sault Sainte Marie to get groceries, get the pump part from Canadian Tire and go to the laundromat. We drove to a crown land campsite off the highway, I found it on this app called iOverlander. I find this app very helpful for helping you find places to stay on crown land. It has a lot of reviews about the camping spots from people that have stayed at them. It was right off the highway well that is where we had to park because we did want to try to get down the narrow road in the dark. We let the cat go out not on a leash and thought she would come back before we went to bed, but she didn’t. We had to stay two nights at this campsite because she decided to come back at 8 o’clock the next night, we obviously didn’t know that yet though. There was a fairly fast-flowing river right beside the campsite. We used buckets to go down and get the water. The river banks were covered in sand and were so beautiful.
Day 6 After getting everything packed up and ready to leave we went for a walk hoping that the cat would be back when we got back. We left about mid-afternoon, we had to walk down the highway about 2km to get to this private driveway. Once we got there we walked about 3km down a one-lane gravel road. We passed like 3 driveways, two of them had a bunch of cameras and private property signs. So I was a little confused because it is supposed to be a Proventil park. We finally got to the trail that led us to the water. On the way to the water, we met up with the Voyageur trail again. So we found out later when we were walking back that this area used to be a big toughest attraction in the 1970s. When we got back the cat still wasn’t back so we started a fire in the bus and Avery and I cut up a bunch of wood. My mom made dinner and before it was ready at 8 exactly the cat came strolling back.
Day 7 We drove to Wawa which was very close to where we were staying. We went to Canadian Tire, the laundromat and on the way out we got subs at Subway. That night we stayed at a motel that I had already pre-booked in White River. It was called the White River motel ironically.
Day 8 When I woke up I waited for my mom then we took the animals for a walk, well Avery made breakfast. On our walk, we saw the statue of Winnie the Pooh. It was a Winnie the pooh memorial site. Whiter River is where it all originated from. An English soldier adopted an abandoned baby bear named Winnie and took it back to the London Zoo and that is where the author of the books got the name of “that silly old bear” Winnie the Pooh. Once we were all packed up we drove to Pukaskwa National park. We got there around 2. The park was closed for the winter so we had to walk 2km from the gate to the trailhead. We took the cat with us as well as the dog. We put her in a bag that she could stick her head out of, she was content. The trails are all pretty short so we were able to walk all of them. I think that was like 6km in total not including the road. The views were beautiful, this is definitely one of the nicest parks in Ontario. The waves were massive, when they hit the rocks the waves would shut up like 5 feet. We got back to the bus when it was dark. We didn't drive down the road very far until I found a crown land spot to stay. We had to drive down a skinny very overgrown paved road to get to it though, we had to drive so slowly that it felt like we were going nowhere. That night or to be more exact early Thursday morning there was a lunar eclipse. This was the first time that this has happened since 1440. It started at 1 am and was at its peak at 4 am, so we got up at 4 to see it. When we woke up I could tell that the moon was a lot darker than it was when we went to sleep. The moon was red. It was so spectacular. I felt very lucky that it was a clear night for us to see this amazing eclipse.
Here is a gold mine we saw well driving
